Childhood Memories, Shared by Biovault Family Readers

We have been totally overwhelmed by the positive response to our competition to win one of ten pairs of tickets to The Baby Show this May 2018 at Birmingham’s NEC and are thrilled to have the Biovault Bear announce the winners on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram today.

Hundreds of you have put your hands up to win complimentary entrance to the UK’s leading pregnancy and parenting event and we have shared many a wonderful trip down memory lane with you and your childhood toys.

Today we’d like to share some of those stories and explain a little bit about why the mums and dads at Biovault Family (aka stem cell scientists and client advisors) urge parents to store their babies’ cord blood and tissue as well as those special memories.

Memories from your childhood

Your favourite childhood toys included classics like Slinky, Peter Rabbit and Swingball, as well as a few that made us feel a bit old, like Buzz Lightyear and Bratz!

Some of you shared stories of treasured toys lost on your travels and remembered in intricate detail decades later. Tina on Facebook wrote, “mine was a battered old brown hare , I loved it sooooo much, it was lost on a holiday I cried for weeks.” Happily, many of your precious childhood companions are still a part of your life. Kasi chose a teddy bear  called Mocopotek, “I have this toy till now ?  over 30 years old ?.”

Some memories have haunted you down the years. Jacqueline remembered, “I had a tiny tears doll called susan….my dog ate my friends tiny tears so i had to give her mine….i was traumatised for months.” Maeve shared a story that we could all empathise with: “I had a little Peter rabbit toy with ribbon, who I took everywhere,i named him Rabbie. I remember my grandmother telling me she would put him in a pie when I was naughty.”

There were some new discoveries and shocks for us along the way. Leanne, for example, told us her favourite toys “were these weird mummy animals that house between 1-6 babies in the stomach. You never knew how many you got! Always a lovely surprise to open the belly up and find 6 baby leopards inside ?”

Some of our favourites were those that spoke of the love (and duty!) of your childhood. Hannah wrote, “Mine was my pushchair! Used to put everything in that thing – siblings included ” and Lou remembered “A little teddy my older brother brought me back from his school trip to France.”

A final memory that made us feel especially nostalgic was this, from Karen: “Love my garden swing. Would swing for hours x”

Oh to be a child again!

Keep them safe by storing their cells

We ran this competition because we want to raise awareness about umbilical cord stem cells. We will be at The Baby Show from May 18-20 and we hope you will be too so that you can find out more about why we believe that your baby’s stem cells are every bit as precious as the memories you’ll  make together day by day.

Cord blood stem cells can treat over 80 life-threatening diseases and there are trials for many more conditions. This sounds abstract, but when you read the stories of small boys and girls like our own who would have died if their parents hadn’t stored their cord blood, or about a newborn baby whose cord blood was the lifeline for their big brother or sister, it feels very real and very urgent.

Cord blood and tissue banking isn’t cheap. We do it properly and you can count on your cells to be viable. When you compare it to the price of your car or even pet insurance though, as one of our clients recently did, you realise that it is not only reasonable but absolutely essential.

Please give us a call to find out how we can help you to protect your family’s future.
