A 4 year old boy with a rare disease, Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome (WAS) that is characterised by eczema, low platelet count and immune deficiency has been successfully treated with an unrelated cord blood transplant and 14 months post-transplant he is now free of eczema and bleeding episodes. This case suggests that unrelated cord blood transplants may be safe for the treatment of WAS. For more information about this read here.
